"Creative Black & White Week 4"

Mon Aug 28, 2006, 8:52 AM

For this whole month I would like to be creative and I mean that in black and white.  I call this one "Creative Black & White".  I know we have done black and white before but not like this.  I am talking everything black & white; Landscaps, people, candid, photojournalism, documenary, still life, experimental/avant-garde, chiaroscuro, key, line, shape, form, texture, abstraction, interpretation, infrared, high speeds, high contrast, duotoning and even hand coloring.

Here are the Zen rules:
2 post per week until the end of the month, which mean that each person should have about 8 by the end of the month (perviding the personal life does not get in the way).  If you miss a week you can catch up by sending me a note and just saying this is for week #whatever.

Well here is the entries for week three:

Trapped by ~now-voyager  Now this had got to be a one of a kind capture.  I think this was taken in middle earth,  Awesome.

:thumb38533355: nearly ready by `photonig The duotone master is at it again with a double this week.  Love the details on this and the composition. This could run as an add.

:thumb38536303: size doesn't matter by `photonig I know my buddy put a lot of work into this one.  The frame is a hell of a job…  Nigel is the greatest.  Will that be all mater… I mean, what did I just say.

Retro Sign by ~now-voyager  Now this is not a black and white but I love it and its funny.  SO I post.

874_Shoo... by `WaitingForTheWorms  I know you've had a issue with the birds but this is a nice.  Details are a little soft but I have that same issue when I shoot birds free hand.

Monochrome Wasp by `davincipoppalag  I love the composition on this one.  Reminds me of the up hill battle that I face at work.

Offering by ~now-voyager  When I first saw this one there were color management issue which have been cleared with the B&W.  I love this one.  Good details yet very soft with an outstanding composition.
Blow by `hellfirediva This is what B&W is all about.  Dark tones with the outstanding highlights.  This well done.
875_Reminiscence by `WaitingForTheWorms Now I know that I have not seen many roses in sepia tones but I feel that they can not be as awesome as this one.  Love the way the frame was filled on this to show off the details.
City Bridge BandW by ~AdamsWife  Now this is just showing off the skills.  Love the selection of composition and the light control.  This could have been overexposed but the tones and details were keep in check.  Outstanding work.
Just a little higher... by ~LobotomizedGoat Way to challenge the categories.  Love this very detailed perspective capture.  Well done.
Paranoid Iguana by ~Goodbye-kitty975  Wow another awesome very detailed capture.  Well done.
:thumb38054203: Upper White River Falls by =greglief  Wow, I know who I want to be when I grow up.  Awesome control of light.  Look at the falling water, no hot spots.  Well done.
:thumb38053865: Middle White River Falls 1 by =greglief  Here is another example of control.  Look at the highlights in the water and the details in the rock face walls.
:thumb38053999: Middle White River Falls 2 by =greglief  Here is a closer view of the one above.  A fine example of what should be done after you take that perfect shot.  Don't just walk away, get the details.
:thumb38040594: Lower White River Falls by =greglief  Awesome details and control.
:thumb37744259: Independence Pass by =greglief Pano in B&W awesome details, Adams would be proud.
Here's more:
:thumb37744325: Continental Divide by =greglief
:thumb17820898: Gnarled Silhouette by =greglief
:thumb17349565: Regal by =greglief
:thumb15635543: Nothing Lasts Forever by =greglief
:thumb15914718: Nelson Homestead by =greglief
:thumb15914680: Desolation by =greglief
:thumb36195237: Natural Clearcut  by =greglief
What a way to close out a month.   I had a lot of fun as I hope you did as well.  Now I am trying to come up with something for the first.  Not sure if I want to stick with B&W but I will have something for ya'll by the 1st.  Thanks to all who submitted. Thank you for playing and if your computer doesn't crash, please come again!!

What a fantastic service this is you've done for people out there. I only wish I'd had more quality time online this month; if I had, rest assured I'd have been sending you messages left, right and centre for this series...

Maybe next time you do something similar I'll actually be around!

Cheers
